Strategies in Learning Foreign Language

There are several steps that must be done by people, especially the students in learning foreign languages. Learning different languages requires a strong desire and motivation to achieve that. Thus, the people who intend to learn foreign languages must set their objectives of goals before starting learning a foreign language. This goal setting will help the people or the students to make a structural plans about what must be done in the sequential time. By setting the goals that must be achieved in the very first step in learning a language, they will have a big picture of what steps and tools that must be prepared in order to improve their potential skill in learning a language. As it has been stated by Dr. Charles Adam (2012 (as cited from Davis)) that setting the goals in the beginning of class will help students to learn the languages that they want to learn about. In addition, it is also clearly described by Calla (2006) that before a student starts to learn a language, she/he needs to set the goals. After setting the goals, ithey have to plan the tasks or content sequence. This step must be done because by having a solid planning, thus the students will be able to determine the next strategies that are needed to be applied in learning foreign languages.
Furthermore,Calla (2006) then explicitly explained that, an evaluation is needed to be done in order to find out the weakness and the strength aspects of our ability in learning foreign languages. All we need to do in the evaluation is assess how well you have accomplished the learning task, how well you have used learning strategies and how effective those strategies in improving your ability in learning foreign languages. If the strategies are proven qualify in improving your ability in learning a language, then, the strategy must be expanded in order to achieve more skills in the learning process. After that, all that must be done is determine the next skills that are going to be reached about.
In addition, Ferris (2009) then stated that each person should be able to manage their own learning. In this case, each student has to determine how they learn best. After that they are required to arrange the condition that may help them in learning languages. Next step that is needed is seeking opportunities for practice. Learning theories will not be completed without practicing. The important key in learning a foreign language is how well we practice that language in our daily life and activities. The last, each student must focus their attention on the language that they are learned about.  By applying those steps of strategies, it is expected that student will find out no difficulties in learning foreign languages.
